4th of July

Oh, how I love Independence Day.  This year was our McCoy family's 23rd year of celebration on the Fourth of July.  We actually just call it "The Fourth."  "Are you going to be at the fourth?"  "What are we eating for the fourth this year?" Etc.

This year on The Fourth, we had spaghetti and chicken alfredo for lunch along with salads.  I had asked my family members some interesting facts about themselves in the few days prior to The Fourth and after lunch, we all gathered together for a family trivia game.  There were funny things like, "I have a birthmark on my tush," and "I ate cat food."  We heard stories of my grandfather racing his horse against his brother's horse, three different running-away-from-home stories, and even my uncle saving a family friend from her burning vehicle after watching the accident happen.  We learned nicknames, family history, and interesting facts.

My mom shares a birthday with Samuel Clemens (aka Mark Twain) and was born 126 years after him.  She was also crowned "Little Miss" at age 3.

My dad passed a cop car who was going over 100 mph in his old Nissan Sedan (turns out they were going to the same accident) and has been living for the last 6 years with a broken/dislocated toe.

My brother was the one who ate cat food (everyone guessed that it was Dad -- "like father, like son"), and he has hit a homerun over a fence.

My sister has modeling on her resume and has met Mr. Belding from Saved by the Bell.

Lonnie's motto was, "Everything I touch turns to sold" and McCoy's immediate family members' names are in alphabetical order (Kimberly, Lonnie, McCoy).

Keane ran away from home but only made it to his back yard, and he stuck a corn knife through his foot.

Kaden played as an outside linebacker in football and Kylie drove her dad's boat.

I share a birthday with my grandparents' anniversary and I was named after two of my aunts.

After the trivia game, we all made our way to the ball fields where we set up our chairs and washer game.  There is a nearby playground that we took McCoy to and there is also a nearby carnival.  This year I didn't make it to the busy and crowded carnival to enjoy a delicious funnel cake, but there is always next year.

The fireworks started at exactly 9:30 and ended 30 minutes later.  It was a really great show and luckily, there was no grass that caught on fire like it did last year.
