16!!!!

I truly had to choke back some tears.  Kollin turned 16 years old!  That's a big one.  BIG.  I am so happy and thankful I was able to be able to celebrate his sixteenth birthday with him.  We had plans to have a surprise party for him but everything kept creeping into the schedule that weekend and it wasn't going to work out.  Instead, Kollin took a group of his friends to BreakoutComo (and broke out!) and we ate at Hooters for lunch.  His birthday morning started out with a family breakfast and gifts and balloons, and his birthday ended pumpkin carving with his girlfriend!

The Monday following his birthday was Columbus Day so he had to wait until the week after to get his drivers license, which he passed with a 94%!  That score is superb compared to whatever my score must have been after completely failing the parallel parking portion by driving up on the curb.  Congrats, brother!

Happy, happiest sixteenth birthday.  And most importantly, I love you.  I am very proud of you.  Every day I am.  You matter so much to me.  You continually give us something to talk about and look forward to!

Apples & Alpacas

Kimberly and McCoy came home over the weekend for Kollin's 16th Birthday and we went apple picking at an apple farm nearby, which was such a simple and healthy style of enjoyment.  There were alpacas at the farm too that Farrah loved to look at! 🍎🍏

Fall Kick Off

Fall is here and I was ready for it this year.  I think the slow-down-just-a-wee-bit portion of it I was ready for.  Summer is fun, and has always been my favorite season, but it's busy and hectic and constantly full of going and doing, and doing and going.  Maybe the entire year is, but this summer was full.  Fun, but full.  I think it's the mobile toddler that also keeps me feeling like life is constantly a "go."

Anyway, with fall comes school and a shift in activities.  Kaden played football for junior high this year and had 6 games (they came out with a record of 5-1), and now Kylie is currently playing basketball and Kaden is practicing for junior high basketball that begins soon.

Bow season is currently here and soon is youth gun season and soon thereafter regular gun season.  My hunting is halted for some time, and I'm okay with that.  Farrah is here and now Kaden and Kylie are both hunting.  Keane said that something he would like to do when the kids are out of the house is for us to both hunt again.

The weather has cooled some, but has warmed back up again, and I'm happy with that type of fall.  Fall colors and smells, fall activities, and warmer weather...heck yeah.  The leaves are turning and falling and there are fall decorations everywhere you look, and it's pretty, it really is.  The holidays are around the corner, and while I look forward to them, I'm also enjoying the time before the hectic actually gets here.

Fall outfits and pies and baking...just all pieces of heaven on this Earth.

An Update on Life with a 16 Month Old Babe

I put "Update Blog" on my mental to-do list every day or so, and then it gets pushed down until a later date, and then again.  The fact that I haven't posted in so long, or very often, is not for the fact that there isn't anything to write about, but that my days are full.  Full of tasks and chores and activities and taking it all in as much as I possibly can.  I'm not saying everything is peachy keen all day, every day, but what I am saying is that I make the most out of it all the very best I can, and I am filling my days with positivity and special moments.

Farrah keeps changing like the seasons do here in Missouri.  She is fiercely independent and I've never needed to use those two words together as much as I do when describing her.  She is either the happiest girl in the land, or the fieriest one.  If things aren't aligned just right for her (milk in her sippy, snacks, well rested, swing, outside, with an animal around), you better watch out.

Oh, she's so much fun.  She directs life with her little pointer finger.  She's very observant.  She watches what we do, and does it too.  She remembers all the little things she's heard or seen.  The daycare girls sent a video of her pushing a baby in a baby swinging repeatedly saying "wee wee wee" because we push her and say "wee."  Gosh, I love it.

She is (and always has been) so very timely and regular.  We get in the car, we turn Bubble Guppies on, she gets a snack of some sort (flavored goldfish crackers, puffs, apples, etc.), then she hands me the bowl and asks for her milk ("mii").  Then she usually grabs her paci from her cup holder and finds Lambie, and comforts herself by watching TV ("tee").  That's her normal morning routine at least.  Any other time it's a little more stressful and with some shrieks and stuff, but you know, we're talking about happy things right now.

One of her favorite things to do right now is push her stroller around.  She pushes on the bottom shelf area and you have to help guide her, but we go around and around on the front concrete pad, sidewalk, and yard.  She also loves to feed Rudy.  She scoops food into an ice cream bucket, and she carries it across our yard to the doghouse and food bowl along the tree line, and pours it into her bowl, after calling for "Rudy" of course.  Sometimes, if Rudy is lucky, Farrah will even feed her for a little bit, piece by piece.

She has been playing with her baby doll around the living room for long periods of time (30 minutes or so) solely picking up the baby, laying the baby down, handing the baby to me, carrying the baby to another spot, all while shaking a toy bottle and offering it to her baby ("bebe!"), and it's just plain adorable.

As we watched her quickly stroll across the living room floor pushing her toy grocery cart hollering for "Lambie!" Keane reminded me that Soon, this will all just be memories.  He went on to say that We will continue to make new memories, but my heart has stuck with his first statement.  Although I've known and realized and remembered that these times are fleeting ever so quickly from the beginning, it was still a strong reminder that this very now, our current every day, will soon fade into new nows and different every days.  Farrah's little voice will change, and her baby words will develop, and her baby play will turn into different styles of play.  And I will love that, but I also love this.  I spend a lot of time simply watching and taking her in.  That's sometimes the best, or most, that I can do to enjoy, appreciate, and capture our now, along with photos and videos of course.

School Kids

It's already that time of the year - for all the first day photos to be posted and shared!

Kaden - 7th grade
His first real year of junior high.  Although he had a locker and switched classes last year, he is officially in junior high and is playing junior high sports this year!

Kylie - 5th grade
Her teacher is Ms. Allen.  One of her very best friends moved to a different school district this year but she luckily gets to share the same classroom with another best friend.

Kollin - Sophomore Year
It's getting closer - this graduating thing!  Class rings this year and prom next year...it's all going to happen so quickly!

Farrah - Not Quite Yet
She is still in the infant/toddler room at her daycare/preschool and is the oldest in the group.  She takes Lambie with her each day and has cried every single morning at drop-off since it picked back up this fall.  She has two new teachers this year and loves them both!

July at Nana's!

During a portion of the summer, Farrah's daycare was closed due to the school it's associated with being closed.  Luckily, Farrah's grandma (Nana) is a school nurse and is off in the summers and was able to spend quality time with her!  I would look forward to the updates and photos I received during that time.  Nana and Farrah played a lot, picked flowers, went on wagon rides, and Nana spoiled her (and Keane and I by all the treats and house cleaning she did while Farrah slept in each morning)!  Nana even curled Farrah's hair for the first time with pink curlers and my oh my was that adorable and precious!

We love you, Nana!!
