Happy Birthday, Two Year Old Augusta Joy!

Happy Second Birthday, Baby Girl!  I watched videos of you being born and looked at all the photos of you entering our lives two years ago the night before your birthday.  I thought extra long and hard about that night being the very last time I ever held my own one-year-old.  I kissed you extra, all while you played and giggled and rolled right along with it all, as you always do.

You have always had the best demeanor.  You are a quiet soul right now.  You will wake up from sleeping and you will spend time putting on shoes or finding a doll or toy before we even know you are awake.  You will quietly appear and continue playing on your own, or you'll come stand next to me sucking your thumb holding your blankies waiting for snuggles.  Nothing upsets you much and you keep your cool no matter what it seems, besides when you and Farrah are fighting over a toy.

You are quiet but you can say so much.  Your little words are so sweet to my ears and I want to remember them all forever.  "Thank you, Mommy."  "I sorry, Mommy."  "Happened?"  "I kiss it?"  "I hols you, Mommy."

You love naming everyone in your family.  At bedtime, we are like John Boy and the Waltons.  You and Farrah have to say goodnight and I love you to all of the family members again, and sometimes again.  You love watching Frozen and Frozen II.  We literally have them on repeat throughout the day.  Every once and awhile you will let us turn something else on to watch like Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Lion King, or something.

For your birthday, we got you an Elsa doll, a new water table, and a Frozen sleeping bag, along with a sparkly kitty cat ears headband and a Be a Unicorn in a Field of Horses tank top.  Grandma and Grandpa Brooks got you a Minnie Mouse piggy bank and a retro toy cash register like the one you like to play with at their house.  Nana and Papa got you an Anna doll.  Aunt Kimberly got you a Mickey Mouse ice cream dress and ice cream sandals, jelly sandals, and a PJ set which Farrah got a matching set too.

You had a Mickey/Minnie Mouse themed birthday party with a Hot Diggity Dog Bar and you don't really like cake so Kylie helped me come up with the idea for a brownie cake, which went over wonderfully until you sprinkled a ton of salt on the remainder of it that evening!  Nana was the only guest outside our family of six, since we are still in the middle of this darn COVID-19 quarantine.

Farrah helped you blow out your two candles and open most of your presents.  You finally warmed up and opened a couple presents, and you always had such a sweet expression on your face to see each gift.  You smile with your eyes, and then smile so sweetly.  I just cannot get enough of your sweetness.

You are so independent and you are so tough.  You like us to kiss a boo-boo and you will ask for a banbaid that you promptly remove, but you hardly ever cry.  We always joke that you'll be a wrestler or fighter because of how strong and tough you are.  You obsess over turning on and off li-lights and we can always find you moving a stool around the house to reach things like light switches and food on the counters.

It has been nice to be home with you and all of the kids so much during this stay-at-home COVID-19 quaratine.  We have been out of school since March 20.  I worked 5 days a week preparing meals for several weeks and then we switched to twice a week.  Recently I have been working two days a week back as the Elementary Secretary position, but it seems it will be quite awhile until things return to normal.

I withdrew you from your daycare at St. Joseph ELC when we found out you got a place at Jesus Little Lambs in the fall now that you are two.  We visited there the other day and it felt so right.  I am so excited.  I am also excited that it is still 2.5 months away!

You say some things incorrectly:
I brush hands for “I wash hands”
I play book for “I read a book”
Push you hime for “push me high”
Hols you for “hold me”
Night Night Down for sleeping
Come here kitty itty

Oh, and we like to ask you to say sock. You pronounces it beginning with a c...

At your 2-year well-check, you weighed 25.4 lbs (32nd percentile) and were 2’10” tall (62nd percentile).

I love how you follow everything up with our names.  “Bless you, Mama.” “Thank you, Dada.”

You holler when I don’t help you right away, “HELP ME, MAMA, RIGHT NOW!”

You are learning colors.  You know yellow well, as well as orange and white. You call both red and green “red.” You’ll ask “what’s that?” for many other colors and then repeat them.

When you’re exhausted, you fall asleep right away, especially at nap time. Sometimes at bedtime, I hold you and you never get sleepy, then I’ll lay next to you and rub your hair and it take a long time but finally you’ll fall asleep, or you’ll be getting out of bed several times.  We all stay up far too late though.  We eat supper late and enjoy our family evening time.  Sometimes you’ll rub my face in the exact interpretation you have of me rubbing yours and it feels amazing, it warms my whole heart, and I stop and relish those minutes, feeling your tiny little hands caring about me.

You are tough and you are beautiful.  Your pouty lips, adorable dimples, and flowing hair are almost too much!

Keep being amazing, baby girl, and we will keep loving you well.  You call yourself Baby and it is just the sweetest thing!
