You are starting to feel much heavier when I lift you up or turn you from one side to the other while nursing. At night or in the morning, I absolutely love picking you up from your crib when you're still sleeping because your little arms will stretch straight up in the air and your legs will tuck up under you and you arch your back to stretch. Goodness, I love it. You are still nursing great! The key to burping you is to apply pressure to your tummy, or to lay you down briefly and bring you back upright.
This month you started refusing your bottle at daycare. It was a rough week for everyone. The second week was a little better, then you refused it again, and the fourth week was back to normal. They figured out how to "trick" you by giving you your pacifier to calm you down, and then slipping it out and replacing it with your bottle.
I get up quite a few times each night when you fuss. When I'm extremely tired I tend to let you fuss a little longer and that seems to be for the best, but when it wakes me up, I rush to hush you to keep the house quiet. I have tried adding a dreamfeed around 9:00pm or 10:00pm in hopes that it will help you sleep longer, and I decided to try reducing the time I feed you at your 3:00am feeding. Sometimes I feel like you are ready to space out your feedings to a 4-hour schedule, but when I try implementing it, you can never make it much past 3 hours before you are fussy and hungry.
You laughed for the first time at 3 months! You were fussy and we were visiting your Grandma Brooks so I started doing squats to bounce you, and you laughed out loud so adorably! Kylie grabbed my phone and got it on camera. That same afternoon, you started grabbing your toys (and bringing them to your mouth). You have gotten so good at using your hands. They are still so shaky but you focus so hard on the object you are playing with and you can slowly grab onto it. You also play with your little hands and that is too cute.
You got your first school photo this month which turned out adorably! You have lost hair on both sides of your head above your ears. Your Grandma McCoy said it is because of all the bows I put on you! Something that makes me a little sad but very proud at the same time is when you are tired, you don't want to be held or rocked. Instead, as soon as we lay you down in your crib, you are out! You take your pacifier at night or when you are very sleepy. Sometimes when I lay you down after nursing you, you smile so big at me and let out a squeal. Those moments make me melt! You rub your eyes when you are sleepy. When you're awake and excited, you start flapping your arms and legs!
You like baths but you hate getting out of the bath and getting cold. I have learned to keep you extremely wrapped up for awhile before putting lotion on you and getting you dressed. Your hair is wild after baths and I hate to brush it all down, but if I don't, your hair is pretty messy!
I feel like you are starting to live off more than instincts and intuition. Although, you don't even open your eyes to nurse at night (heck, I'm not sure if I do most of the time either) and you hold your little mouth open like a baby bird waiting for a worm. You are getting chunky, especially your thighs, cheeks, wrists, and ankles.
Mary Thomas, your Parents as Teachers lady, came for her second visit. We learned about messages and introducing you to yourself in the mirror, which we already do, and you love smiling at yourself!
People so often comment on your wide eyes! You always want to stand on your legs, and you hold your head up so well. You are even using your upper body to sit up when you are reclined!
You rolled over twice for me and your daddy! You made it look quick and easy. But mostly you flop back and forth on the floor and you have found your feet and love to grab them. You smile so big at me when you do because I always laugh out loud.
I am not ready for you to grow up. I love, love, love you as a baby! I love the way you grunt and how you love our millions of kisses. I miss you so much when I lay you down in the evenings and while I'm away from you at work.
You daddy calls you "Fairly Oaktree" and he says, "yummm yummm yummm" and your eyes get really wide in anticipation for his kisses. He misses you on evenings he doesn't get to see you much. You're perfect, baby girl. These have been the happiest four months!
4 Month Stats
Height: 23.3" (8%)
Weight: 12 lb 10 oz (17%)
Head: 40.1 cm (33%)
Didn't breathe due to crying during both shots and both Band-Aids.
I had to pick you up and blow in your face before you took a breath and let out your cry.
The nurse said you're going to be a "breath holder."
